AVKRVST are a Norwegian progressive rock/metal band and this is their debut album.
The Approbation is a 49-minute exploration of progressive rock and metal, played professionally and delivered with a contemporary sheen.
Spread out over seven tracks, this is a confident, professional, and engaging work. Six of the tracks are actual songs, while the seventh is a 30-second intro that does very little apart from pointlessly delay the start of The Pale Moon.
The music takes a range of influences from across the years and packages them together into well-executed vision of progressive music. Opeth are the obvious reference point, as well as Porcupine Tree.
The album takes the listener on a journey through a sonic tapestry that’s full of colour, texture, and detail. Rich in expressive melodies, progressive structuring, emphatic layers, and soulful vocals, The Approbation is a very well-crafted first album from AVKRVST. The songs are well-written and their emotive presence is strong.
For progressive rock and metal afficionados there’s much to enjoy here. Check out The Approbation of you’re a fan of the style and see what you think of what AVKRVST are doing.
