Ahhhh Swedish death metal. Always reliable, always enjoyable. Sure, it has its detractors, but when you get right down to it, what’s not to like?
Influenced by the usual suspects, (Entombed, Dismember, etc.), Insanity Infesting Reality contains just under 13 minutes of chainsaw guitars, groovy riffs, deep growls and catchy songs. Yes, it’s Swedish death metal just as we like it.
Every band puts their own spin on the style, of course, and Lifeblind focus more on riff-heavy brutality and stomping aggression than the macabre melodies or dark atmosphere that some Swedish death metal does.
Particular mention must go to the vocalist I feel, as he has a really satisfying growl that works perfectly with the substantial guitars.
With a rough production that nonetheless shows off their heavy side, I enjoyed this EP immensely. It may not be anything new or innovative, but that’s not what Swedish death metal is about. This EP rips, tears and destroys, and I wouldn’t want the band any other way.
Give them a listen.
