Die Choking – III (Review)

Die ChokingThis is the debut album from US Grinders Die Choking.

After two very good-but-short EPs, (I and II), we now get III; this time, it’s longer.

Although not by much, really. Here we have a whole 14 minutes of tightly-compressed angry music. After the promise of the two EPs, this release lives up to my expectations.

The music is modern Grindcore full of extremity and rage, burning everyone around it with its intensity and brutality.

Their sound has progressed and developed from their earlier Grindings into an even more focused expression of hatred and violence. The vocals have improved and seem buried in the music in such a way it seems impossible to separate them.

Each song may be short, but they still manage to pack in a lot of content, with quite a few different sub-styles of Grind rearing their malformed heads throughout. It all adds a good degree of interest and variety in what is essentially a chaotic blast-fest of brutality and destruction. From old to new styles, from crust to modern, from Napalm Death to Misery Index; there’s a lot of meat on this violent treat.

If you’re into Grindcore, (and who isn’t, really?), then this is highly enjoyable and easily likeable.

Die Choking – II (Review)

Die ChokingThis is the latest EP from Grindcore band Die Choking.

Their previous EP was a tightly compressed ball of rage and hatred, played with obvious enthusiasm and savagery; II is no different, although if anything they have stepped up the heaviness and aggression this time round.

Once again it’s a short EP – five tracks in just under 6 minutes. Due to this there’s absolutely no room for filler and all of the songs are blistering with wrath and fury, exactly as Grindcore should be.

Furious, modern Grind like this is always an enjoyable treat when played and delivered well. Die Choking raised my expectations of them with their first release and the second keeps these expectations high.

So what comes next? Well, hopefully a full album is in the works, because after these two brutally short EPs I’m now primed for a meatier release from this band. I get the impression it will be worth the wait.

A top quality grind release; get your grubby mitts on II and revel in the carnage they unleash.

Tips for next time? More. Oh yes. More.

Die Choking – Die Choking I (Review)

Die ChokingGrindcore band Die Choking are from the US and this is their first release.

With only 5 tracks in just under 6 minutes this is fast and brutal. Die Choking like their Grind raw and rough, with Punk and Crust elements to the songs. Think of a band like Misery Index only with shorter songs and you’ll get the right idea.

Even with such short tracks the band show that they can play insane blasting just as well as heavy and brutal.

The playing is tight and focused and the sound does the songs justice. The passion and enthusiasm of the band is obvious and this is fresh and above all savage. This is Grindcore to pay attention to.

As an opening salvo into the world of Metal this short EP is an excellent warning shot. Let’s see what they can do with a longer release now.
