This is the fourth album from international death metal band Heads for the Dead.
I feel Heads for the Dead are an underappreciated band. It’s Swedish death metal at its core, but with a horror theme that’s incorporated well into the music, and it’s great. Serpent’s Curse, Into the Red, The Great Conjuration, and In the Absence of Faith were all high quality outings for the band, so this new record appearing is very welcome indeed.
Never Ending Night of Terror contains 41 minutes of music – ten new tracks, including the final song which is a tribute to Italian act Goblin and Dario Argento’s Suspiria. Break out your blades and get ready to party.
The chainsaws are revving and ready to cut through flesh and bone once more. Deep growls bite and chew through what’s left, while brutal drums pound the remains into dust. Haunting melodies and dark synths swirl around the aftermath, carrying the call of violence and terror to the next victim. Heads for the Dead don’t mess around.
The songs are heavy and ferocious, but also rich in atmospheric presence. There are hooks too, showcasing the band’s skilled songwriting and execution. Overall this is album probably boasts some of the band’s most aggressive material; nobody gets our of this one alive.
The horror-fuelled musical aspect of Never Ending Night it Terror has been further developed and embedded, however. Despite the rampant aggression, this brings out more of Heads for the Dead’s personality, and it has been great to see the band’s progress over releases. No song on this new record is free from this enrichment, and it’s all incorporated seamlessly I have to say.
Never Ending Night of Terror is another strong record from Heads for the Dead. The band continue to grow into themselves and their niche over time, refining their murderous music ever further. As a collection of death metal songs saturated in macabre atmosphere and horror atmospheres, it’s hard to beat.
Very highly recommended.
