Rothadás – Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang (Review)

Rothadás - Töviskert... a Kísértés Örök Érzete... LidércharangRothadás are a death/doom band from Hungary and this is their second album.

Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang almost passed me by, but I heard enough underground buzz about it that I had to check it out. I’m glad I did, as Rothadás have produced a monstrous slab of doom-inflused death metal.

Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang offers up a mountain of crushing death metal, with rock-strewn groove and enormous avalanches of destructive doom. The music on its own is potent enough, but when bolstered by the huge production, it’s a powerful combination. The production is one of the best I’ve heard in a while, and Rothadás make the most of it with their compelling extremity.

The songs are dark and malevolent. They have a foundation of brutality, but this is tempered by atmospheric moodbuilding. Rothadás unleash Hell when they want to though, with steamroller blast beats and devastating heaviness. Then, when they drop into their textured doom-led worldcrafting, it raises itself up another level entirely. The band have some lethal riffs too, and the epic clean singing in closer Az Örök Isten Lucifer was unexpected, but welcome.

If abyssal death metal with macabre doom workouts is your thing, (of course it is!), then this is one for you. Rothadás have impressed, and Töviskert… a Kísértés Örök Érzete… Lidércharang delivers a damn good listen.

Very highly recommended.
