Orange Goblin – Science, Not Fiction (Review)

Orange Goblin - Science, Not FictionThis is the tenth album from UK stoner/heavy metal band Orange Goblin.

A new Orange Goblin album is a notable event. 2014’s Back from the Abyss was a top drawer record, followed by 2018’s enjoyable The Wolf Bites Back. Six years later, we get Science, Not Fiction, which brings us 53 minutes, (with bonus track), of new material.

It’s good to hear Orange Goblin back in the world. Nobody does this sort of thing as good as they do. This is Orange Goblin’s classic mix of stoner/heavy metal, and it’s as tasty and satisfying as it ever is.

Science, Not Fiction is a treasure trove of rock ‘n’ roll-fuelled heavy metal. The songs are all rippers, filled with big riffs, catchy vocals, and memorable tunes. Orange Goblin could probably do this in their sleep at this point, but thankfully they don’t, as these new tracks have been given the band’s full attention. The songwriting is strong and effortless; Science, Not Fiction is easy to listen to, and easy to enjoy. Orange Goblin are back and on top form.

The record touches on a few different aspects of the Orange Goblin sound, from energetic punky heaviness to progressive mood-building, all the time benefitting from the iconic vocals of their charismatic singer. It makes for a well-rounded album that’s very likeable.

For me Orange Goblins are the kings of this style, and Science, Not Fiction changes my opinion of this not one bit. Top work from Orange Goblin once more!
