This is the second album from Polish black metallers Mānbryne.
I enjoyed 2021’s Heilsweg: O Udręce Ciała I Tułaczce Duszy, so was eager to check out its follow up. Interregnum: O Próbie Wiary i Jarzmie Zwątpienia contains 40 minutes of new material. Back with a new drummer, (also in Blaze of Perdition), Mānbryne sound better than ever.
Interregnum: O Próbie Wiary i Jarzmie Zwątpienia continues on from its predecessor, delivering a potent experience of modern melodic black metal. This is not a redirection or evolution from Heilsweg: O Udręce Ciała I Tułaczce Duszy, but rather a refinement of the sound established on Mānbryne’s debut. Interregnum: O Próbie Wiary i Jarzmie Zwątpienia double down on their vision for black metal, while also improving it via a development in songwriting and performance. This is an approach that has resulted in a very enjoyable album being created.
The music has a crisp blackened sound that’s very satisfying. Mānbryne’s songwriting makes the most of the production values, allowing them to concentrate on crafting engaging black metal that’s textured with not only compelling melody, but occasionally other elements such as acoustic guitars, double bass, trombone, and guest vocals.
Driven by passionate fury and searing intensity, Mānbryne’s music is forceful and imposing. However, it’s also textured and atmospheric, providing the listener with plenty of depth to satisfy those longevity cravings. The album is easy to play over and over again, so effortlessly does it hit the right blackened spots.
If you’re a fan of contemporary black metal played with zeal, fierce determination, and professional character, then Interregnum: O Próbie Wiary i Jarzmie Zwątpienia is for you.
Very highly recommended.
