Rebaelliun – Under the Sign of Rebellion (Review)

Rebaelliun - Under the Sign of RebellionThis is the fourth album from Brazilian death metallers Rebaelliun.

2016’s The Hell’s Decrees was a really damn good slab of death metal. It’s been a long time coming, but its follow up is now here, and I have been eagerly awaiting it. Containing 39 minutes of new material, and sadly the final performance of late bassist/vocalist Lohy Fabiano, Under the Sign of Rebellion is the sound of a death metal band who have come to destroy.

Driven by rage and anger, Under the Sign of Rebellion is an album of honest aggression and brutal authenticity. There’s no frills, no filler, (apart from the intro), just pure, devastating, blast beat laden death metal. Like a collision between Krisiun, Hate Eternal, and Deicide, Rebaelliun are an unstoppable force of primal aggression and potent belligerence given ferocious death metal form. If you’re a fan of death metal in its most mercilessly hostile form, then there’s little to dislike here.

The songs are well-constructed and delivered by a passionate band that know how to craft death metal. If you have been born and raised on this sort of brutality then it’s easy to find Rebaelliun’s attack enjoyably satisfying. They know how to press all of the right buttons with their fierce riffs, punishing drums, and impassioned growls.

Highly recommended for any fan of the style.
