Avulsed – Extraterrestrial Carnage (Review)

Avulsed - Extraterrestrial CarnageAvulsed are a death metal band from Spain. This is their latest EP.

Has it really been so long since Night of the Living Deathgenerations, and even longer since we had any new material from the mighty Avulsed, with 2016’s Altar of Disembowelment? Well, it’s great to have some new Avulsed once more.

So what do we have on Extraterrestrial Carnage then? Regrettably there’s only 10 minutes of material here; a mere two songs. However, what the EP lacks in quantity it makes up for with quality.

Vile Evil Rotted Over is a forceful death metal song with thick, muscular riffs and an energy that’s arresting. It’s punishing, but without relying on blast beats or ultra-brutality. There’s a winding lead that’s a firm hook, and the deep growls of Avulsed’s singer are great to hear once more. Born from real-life tragedy, Vile Evil Rotted Over is a top track with more emotive impact than you’d expect from a death metal song.

Intergalactic Gore Wars is constructed in the classic Avulsed way; all killer riffs and infectious melodies. There’s a molten guitar solo that seems to go on for days, (in a good way), and all aspects of this song feel carefully crafted to appeal to fans of what Avulsed are capable of. I, for one, am not complaining at all about this at all.

Both of these songs are very good, very enjoyable, and very worth seeking out. It bodes extremely well for hopefully yet more new tunes from this first-rate band, and I can’t wait to hear even more from them in the future.

Very highly recommended.
