Standard Interrogation Techniques: Five Questions for Wake (Interview)

Although I’d ideally love to be able to conduct hard-hitting, in-depth interviews, who has the time these days? In lieu of this, I’ve thrown together the below question template, hopefully to gather some interesting and informative results, without taking up too much of anyone’s time.

Introduce yourself – who are you and what do you do?

I’m Josh, I play the drums.

Tell us about your latest release and why people should listen to your music

I think it’s our best release so far, it uses Devouring Ruin and Confluence as a bit of a starting point musically and features our most well developed songs ever.

What’s the most important thing to you about your music? What meaning does it give you and what purpose does it serve in your life?

Creating anything is a great outlet for people and music is what I chose via my parents being musicians and getting me started at a very young age. It’s nice to be able to focus your creative energy on something you believe in.

Tell us a lesser-known interesting or funny anecdote about your band or music

We have a reggae album coming out as Waké, a nu metal album as Wakk, and a disco e.p. dropping under Woke. Probably in 2040.

Finally, what are you listening to at the moment that you especially enjoy and wish more people knew about?

This week has been a lot of Thou, Boards of Canada, Vincent Neil Emerson, Nirvana, Column of Heaven, Fief, and Pg. 99. People should check out the new Phobophilic when it comes out, cool newer death metal band from Fargo. Also our jam space mates The Weir have a new record coming out in the near future that will be sick.
