This is brutal death metal with elements of grindcore included. The EP lasts 22 minutes.
Teratoma are influenced by the old-school and this shines through in their ruthless music. Indeed, the band actually formed back in 1993 – this is the band’s first real release in about 17 years – so they know a thing or two about this style.
Although a mix of speeds can be heard across the songs, the band never let the aggressive pace drop too low for too long. Most of what’s here is of the faster variety, which suits me just fine.
The band do occasionally use some melodic components, although not many. These tend to manifest in the slower sections rather than the more barbaric faster ones. Leads and solos appear here and there too, as an added bonus.
The singer has the type of deathgrowl that sounds as if it is going to swamp you in gore somehow. As I’m listening to this I keep making furtive glances towards the speakers, as if I’m expecting them to start excreting bubbling red horror of some kind.
This is an enjoyably base and brutal listen. Check it out.
