This is the second album from UK progressive/power metal band All Seeing Eyes.
Following on from 2014’s Trinity Road and 2021’s Reinventing Time comes the new record from All Seeing Eyes – We Are the Revolution. It’s a 49-minute feast of progressive power metal from this very enjoyable band, so get ready to gorge yourself silly on their luscious flavours.
The music shows a skilled technicality at work, but the thing I like is that this is pressed into the service of the music, rather than existing just to be flashy. Of course, these are flashy songs; they’re colourful, flamboyant, and ostentatious, but they’ve earned the right to be through songwriting that focuses on the actual songs themselves. Everything else is just for fun. And, do you know what? We Are the Revolution is one big giant glass of intoxicating fun. All Seeing Eyes are just a fun band. It’s good, well-written music, that flows from the heart straight into my willing ears and can’t fail to satisfy.
It’s an album full of hooks, catchiness and earworms. The vocals are once again a joy to listen to, and the solos and leads flow like liquid light. It’s proper metal, so has some real goddammit riffs, but isn’t afraid to show vulnerability or nuance either. I think it’s a cracking album all-round, but the synth/keyboard/whatever parts I’ll especially note, as these seem to be a step up in quality and presentation whenever they’re used. Hell, All Seeing Eyes have the full musical package though for me – if you’re a fan of this sort of style, I fail to see why you wouldn’t be all over this underground gem.
We Are the Revolution scratches a very specific itch that’s hard to reach. It exists at the border of a particular subset of progressive and power metal, meaning that it’s sadly only likely to have niche appeal for many, but for me, it really hits the spot. I mean, what’s not to like? Songs, character, charisma, personality? All Seeing Eyes deliver the goods.
This is a band that definitely deserve more attention than they’re getting.
