This is the latest EP by Swedish post-hardcore band Suffocate for Fuck Sake.
This passed me by when it was released earlier in the year, but I’ve finally given it the time it deserves. To Rest in the Trust, That Creates the World contains one track, with a duration of 20 minutes, and it’s a pretty damn special piece.
This is my first time listening to Suffocate for Fuck Sake, and I was not prepared this 20-minute masterpiece. This single track offers a depth and breadth of experience that’s breathtaking. Yep, that’s a lot of hyperbole, but this entire piece is just fantastic.
Existing somewhere between post-hardcore, post-rock, and post-metal, To Rest in the Trust, That Creates the World is a remarkable achievement. It builds and swells, from heaviness that’s like a weight bearing down on you, to weightless delicate fragility, born of light and ephemeral in touch.
Throughout its running time it impresses with its ability to fully involve the listener from the start to the end. This song uses worldbuilding and immersive atmosphere at such an advanced level that you feel completely drained of emotion by the end of it. The entire track drips with feeling, and the song’s many layers draw you in and keep you close, enraptured, for its entirety.
Suffocate for Fuck Sake are now firmly planted on my radar. I now need to check out their past work, and I sincerely hope that there’s a full album coming soon – if it’s even half as good as this, it’s going to be worth paying attention to.
Essential listening.
