Belial’s Throne – Forgotten Land of the Lost Souls (Review)

Belial's Throne - Forgotten Land of the Lost SoulsThis is the debut album from Irish/international black metallers Belial’s Throne.

Featuring the drummer of Coscradh, Forgotten Land of the Lost Souls contains 36 minutes of good quality second wave black metal.

Forgotten Land of the Lost Souls burns with 90s blackened vigour and melodic atmosphere. Delivering a fierce black metal journey of dark intensity, detailed melodic shading, and emotive mood, Belial’s Throne demonstrate their ability with the style in no uncertain terms.

Belial’s Throne provide the listener with seven enjoyable songs across Forgotten Land of the Lost Souls, (plus an outro which is as disposable as all outros are). The band’s black metal is song-focused, confident, and easy to take to if you’re a fan of the classic style. The songs are well-crafted and balance mood and aggression well, blending the two together to produce songs that have more going on than a simple blast-and-groove approach.

I enjoyed Forgotten Land of the Lost Souls. It’s an authentic take on the old-school style, one that’s driven by solid songwriting, satisfying performances, and a good sound overall. I can imagine the band being very enjoyable live too.

If you’re a fan of the 90s traditional black metal scene, then make sure that you give this a few spins.
