This is the debut album from UK post-rock band Din of Celestial Birds.
The Night Is for Dreamers is a 45-minute instrumental post-rock album. While this would typically be something I’m not drawn to, I do like the style when done well, which is why Din of Celestial Birds make the cut.
A journey that becomes marginally darker as it progresses, The Night Is for Dreamers weaves a compelling tale of musical depth and richness as it unfolds. Din of Celestial Birds’ grasp of dynamics is well-formed, and their use of melody is affecting. From bright resplendence to darker colours, the album takes the listener on a journey into the multifaceted world of the band.
Din of Celestial Birds are capable songsmiths, displaying emotional depth and skilled worldbuilding across their album. From heaviness to gentleness, the music’s span and scope allows for a range of details and textures to be explored. The use of three guitarists allows for a detailed and intricate web to be spun, one that’s further fleshed out by the heavy use of synths to layer the songs.
The Night Is for Dreamers is an accomplished and engaging record. It’s an album that’s easy to throw on and get lost in. Its atmospheric mood-focused approach to post-rock soundscapes works a treat.
Highly recommended.
