This is the second album from Mephitic Grave, a death metal band from Hungary.
Dreadful Seizures contains 34 minutes of old-school death metal. Drawn up into the light from the most ancient of caverns, Mephitic Grave’s music is a rotten and fetid mass of nastiness and gruesome presence.
Dreadful Seizures is primitive and deadly. It oozes menace and shrouds itself in cloying mists that weaken and decay anything that they come into contact with. Mephitic Grave are skilled at crafting sinister melodies and weaving macabre atmosphere. These are stitched into the brutal shambling corpse of the music, resulting in a hideous mess of broken bones, flayed flesh, and eyeless horror.
Rolling into town with a filthy groove Mephitic Grave massacre the townsfolk and infect the water sources. Dreadful Siezures is foul and unpleasant, adopting a backwards looking approach that scorns anything modern and fully embraces the killing tools as laid down by genre forefathers from the American and Finnish scenes.
It’s ugly, it’s dirty, it’s disgusting. Yes, it’s the oldest sounding and most repulsively authentic old-school death metal that I’ve heard in some time. If you have had your booster shots and have donned your hazmat suit, then make sure you check out Mephitic Grave’s sickening homage to atavistic death metal. It’s curiously satisfying and remarkably enjoyable for something so unwholesome and raw.
