Cannibal Corpse – Chaos Horrific (Review)

Cannibal Corpse - Chaos HorrificThis is the sixteenth album from legendary death metallers Cannibal Corpse.

Two years after Violence Unimagined, Cannibal Corpse are back with 39 minutes of new material. Now here’s a band that never disappoint, so get ready for slaughter!

Okay, so what can you really say about Cannibal Corpse at this stage in their career? The band don’t have a bad album to their name, and Chaos Horrific is no exception. Although every person has their favourites, dip into any single one and you know you’re getting a quality slab of death metal carnage that’s better than what the average band are capable of. Chaos Horrific doesn’t break this winning streak, and offers a disgusting feast of blood and gore for lovers of the band to chew down on. And do you know what, it tastes gooooooooooooood.

Chaos Horrific follows on naturally from its predecessor, but is its own monstrous entity that’s the more predatory and superior of the two. It’s an album that’s effortlessly easy to enjoy, as every last minute of it is crafted from quality materials and delivered with professional skill. More than that though, it’s just damn good fun to listen to. There’s an energy and passion on display here that is infectious.

The songs boast that classic Cannibal Corpse mix of heaviness, memorability, brutality, and technicality. Whether fast and aggressive, or slow and menacing, the music hits the spot with devastating force. You can pick any song here and be assured of a winner. There’s also a bit more in the way of variety on display on Chaos Horrific when compared to Violence Unimaginable, and I like that the songwriting has an increased amount of gruesome ideas that help to detail the songs across the album.

Full of murderous rhythms, punishing drums, belligerent hooks, and those iconic vocals, Chaos Horrific is yet another great album from the masters of death metal. What’s more to say? Play it at full volume and get ready to move hard to it.
