Formless Oedon are from the Philippines and this is their debut album.
Streams of Rot is a 36-minute death metal album that drips with foul menace and grim old-school heaviness. Formless Oedon have produced an album of satisfying death metal horror.
The songs on Streams of Rot are filthy and encrusted with contagion. Raw and harsh, but muscular and imposing, the music will eat you whole given half a chance. The songwriting is solid, and Formless Oedon’s morbid interpretation of classic death metal is effortless to enjoy. The band’s passion for their music is almost tangible. They attack their material with zeal, but not without control; the songs are well-written, and demonstrate a balanced understanding of brutal aggression and mood-focused gloominess.
Streams of Rot is filled with so many crushing riffs, malign grooves, and murderous rhythms you’ll be injured for months after listening to it. Yep, Formless Oedon know their way around a good riff. Also, their singer has a potent voice that sounds wet with gore and bloodshed, which is always a bonus for this sort of band. There’s a malignant doom component to their sound, and the band use this to ramp up the macabre atmosphere and inject an air of horror into the deathly brutality. There are also some progressive touches, which add another level of depth to the abyssal music.
Streams of Rot is a really enjoyable record. It’s ugly and covered in grave dirt, but if you’re in the market for some underground old-school death metal, then you can do a lot worse than this. I like this a great deal, so check it out and see what you think.
Very highly recommended.
